...and now I'm cold and everything is pallid and if I don't get out of the flat in about an hour the dusk will come again. But in my head, it's all quite bright. I think it needed a good shining out.

A couple of days ago, close to the Plaza de Armas. Later in the day it was warmer still but there were no handily photographable public thermometers. In this picture I just missed the couple who whipped across the road, buried in coats and scarves. When London gets into the seventies F we're strolling around in our underpants, but the last time I saw a populace so well (and smartly) insulated against the cold was in Helsinki one February. I kept my light jacket on so as to remain inconspicuous.

Yet in the afternoons still the quiet of a siesta and then the surge of people out into the streets in the evenings, the smell of woodsmoke and church incense, whir of scooters and all the chatter that I couldn't understand.
